Green Building Resources for Muskoka
As green building is not a strictly defined term, we have compiled some authoritative resources for those seeking more information, either to build from the ground up or gradually greening their home during the course of renovations:
Canada Green Building Council: - LEED Certification for new homes - LEED Certification for existing homes
Forest Stewardship Council of Canada: - FSC Certified Wood Products
US Green Building Council: - Regreen Guidelines
Whenever possible, and at the request of our clients, we use products that have been evaluated and reviewed by the GreenSpec® Directory or similar resources. Even in the greenest of projects, however, it is likely that many products will be used that are not themselves green—but they are used in a manner that helps reduce the overall environmental impacts of the building. A particular window may not be green, but the way it is used maximizes collection of low winter sunlight and blocks the summer sun. So even a relatively conventional window can help make a house green. Creating a green renovation means matching the products and materials to the specific design and site to minimize the overall environmental impact. Martin Home Improvements is a member of the Canada Green Building Council (Greater Toronto Chapter), and is committed to ongoing training in green renovation, building materials and techniques. We never pressure clients into going greener than their lifestyle or budget allows; we do, however, provide a range of material and product options that allow you to make the best, most informed choice for your own life and home.
